Yesterday's downtime
I just wanted to apologize for the downtime we experienced yesterday. The power supply on one of our key servers failed, which in turn caused a few other things to fail, resulting in the websites not being accessible. I can assure you that no data was lost, and that we were back up and running normally again yesterday afternoon. We're also making a few changes to reduce the likelihood of this happening again.
I must admit I'm a little sad, for two reasons. Firstly, it sucks to have downtime and we strive to avoid it. Secondly, the power supply that died was a really awesome one! Made by Enermax, it had the unique feature of swappable cables, meaning you could set it up with all SATA power connectors if you wanted. Very cool.
All computer parts will eventually fail though, cool or not. Especially components that run in servers, a very demanding environment.
