October 2006 - Posts

We launched Podcast Spot just over a month ago, after a year and a half of development. So far the service is off to a great start! As of this post, we have 144 podcasters who together have posted a total of 183 public episodes. We've had some decent traffic, and it looks to be picking up, so that's good news.

We've been making small changes and fixing the few issues that have cropped up since launch, and now we're getting ready to introduce some new features. We don't have a specific timeline or anything yet, but watch for a post soon.

In the meantime, let us know if you have any feedback on Podcast Spot! We always love to hear what our users think about the service. If you have any feature requests, we'd love to hear those too.

Thanks to everyone who has checked out Podcast Spot in our first month!

We've just deployed another tweak to produce higher quality FLV files (yes, even better than before!). It will take longer to encode the FLV file but we think the quality gains will more than justify the wait. Let us know if there are any problems.

We've only been back from the Expo for a few days, but we've already published some updates to Podcast Spot. Here's the list of things that went live last night:

  • [FIX] The number of comments displayed on a podcast page is now correct.
  • [FIX] Updating episodes or editing drafts no longer results in multiple word tags being broken apart.
  • [CHANGE] We no longer resize FLV files, and instead maintain the resolution of the source video.
  • [CHANGE] iPod, PSP, and PMC videos now maintain the aspect ratio of the source video.
  • [CHANGE] We've bumped up the encoding quality for FLV, MOV, and MPEG-1 videos.
  • [CHANGE] The features and pricing pages have been updated in an attempt to make our pricing information more clear.

Most of these changes were made based on feedback we received from podcasters. Your feedback is really important to us, so don't be shy! You can always post a message in our forums.

You'll note there are no new features in the list above, but rest assured, we are working on a bunch of exciting new things that are coming soon!
